A wealthy 2018 awaits

…well, it does if you let it!

There’s always plenty of extra money to be made and let’s face it, life just isn’t cheap, is it? So finding ways in which you can make yourself more money, or at least save some money along the way is going to make 2018 a lot easier for you. Now, it’s looking like the economy is set to get worse this year so the sooner you start looking for these ways to boost your finances the better.

Some are going to take some work, some are pretty simple and have been sitting right under your nose the whole time. But what we do know is they all will definitely pay off in the long run.

Read on to find out how a wealthy 2018 awaits you.

Your House

Your house is going to be one of the biggest payouts of the month, and boy does it make a dent into your finances.

As soon as you get your paycheck, a massive chunk of it will come out to your house. Not just your mortgage, but your bills and other costs as well, but we’ll get into how your can reduce those later. The first thing you need to focus on is trying to get that big monthly mortgage payment down!

So, actually have a look at your house and see if it suits you. It is easy enough to buy the bigger house when you first buy due to wanting the better things in life. It might have been the case that you thought you could afford it in the beginning. But with all the other things in life you have to pay for this sometimes just isn’t easy. If you need to downsize, then do it. It could see you saving hundreds a month. Yes, the move might be a little stressful and expensive in itself, but there are ways of getting that down too.

Take the solicitor fees for example. They usually cost a couple of thousand, and for some people this is just too much. But you can compare solicitors fees for buying a house online to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

If you really don’t want to sacrifice the size of your house, you could also look into remortgaging. It is a much easy process, but you might only be able to save a tiny bit each month. Not everyone has the massive savings they think they will by remortgaging. You aren’t always successful either. Some people remortgage and find their monthly payments go up, so you do have to be careful with this one.

Make Some Money Online

If you’re looking to make a little bit of extra money, then the internet is the place for you.  There’s so much you can do on here that can see you earning a lot of money and I’m not just talking about gambling! My Side Hustle Surgeon series has a ton of ideas from dog boarding to eBay.

For the purpose of this article, I’m going to talk about blogging as it’s something I haven’t really covered yet.

In honesty, starting a blog really isn’t that hard and the basics of blogging are easy enough to do, but you will have to have the patience to build up your following and create regular, interesting content in order to make money.

Here’s how to kickstart your blog right now:

The two most popular platforms to start a blog on are WordPress or Blogger. WordPress is slightly more simple to use in terms of setting up. There’s thousands of themes you can choose from on the internet. Paid ones are a tad expensive, but it is a one off payment and they tend to offer a better user experience. One you’ve purchased a theme, all you need to do is think of a name and what you want to blog about.

WordPress will guide you through setting up the different categories. Then you need to think about your social sharing. This is one of the most important parts of blogging. It is the only way to get your name out there and get people checking out your blog. The biggest platforms to use are Twitter and Instagram.

On Twitter you’ll find tonnes of blogging chats and pages to follow. All you need to do is start interacting with the people on them. Get involved in the chats and always share your posts to social media. There are retweet pages that if you tag in your tweets, will retweet your posts. This is a really effective way of getting noticed.

Make sure you’re following plenty of people that you’re actually interested in blogging wise as well. Instagram you can use the hashtags to get yourself noticed. Again, follow bloggers and make sure you’re taking some really nice, professional looking photos to put on your page.

Then once you build up your following you will notice companies coming to you asking you to write paid reviews of their products, or to post a post they’ve wrote for a fee. It could see you making a lot of money in no time.

Your Bills

This is something that plagues a lot of people. Bills have the potential to really damage your finances if you aren’t trying to get them down.

The first bill that really is expensive that people might not think about is the mobile phone contract. Everyone is so quick to take out an expensive phone contract just because they want the latest phone. But you’re then tied into this contract for a year or so, which can really start knocking you back, especially if you own your own home. The best thing you can do is go SIM only. It will mean you’re saving for the phone first, but this can be done whilst you’re tied into your other contract.  Once you’ve got enough money, buy the brand new phone and the SIM only contracts will work out so much cheaper for you. It’s often not an option that people consider due to being drawn in by the advertisements of the actual pay monthly contracts.

Your household bills are another thing that can really plague you.

These seem to be on the rise lately as well, so looking for ways to get them down is so important. The first thing you need to do is save some energy and water. Are you one of those people who turns the plug off after using things? No? Well even just doing this can save you a lot of money each month. Having things on standby actually uses a lot more electricity than people realise.

Then there’s the fact that people leave the lights on when it is broad daylight. There’s just no need for it, and again, it does use up a hell of a lot of electricity. Make sure all lights and plugs are switched off where possible and it should bring it down, even if by a little bit each month.

Water is another thing that is on the rise, but we as humans are the worst for spending half an hour in the shower. These have got to go. Just a quick five or ten minute shower compared to the longer ones is going to save you so much money. Also, things like not leaving the tap running when you’re brushing your teeth. It’s the little things that is going to save you a lot.

If you’re looking to get cheaper bills as a whole, use comparison websites on the internet and see if you can get it cheaper by going through a different company.
